Sara has been unhappy for a while now. Sara longs for just a moment of peace and quiet to write. She goes to the library and sits down at a computer.
A teenaged boy enters in the middle of a phone conversation and, despite there being eight available computers, sits at the one right next to Sara. He chews his Cheetos with his mouth open and plays his music loud enough for Sara to hear it through his headphones. Then, he drops his headphones down around his neck and leaves them there, doubling his music’s volume. Sara explodes, shouting curses at God until she’s transported to the trunk of a tree on the side of a mountain in a post-homosapien world, pen and journal at her side.
Sara gets lost in her writing until she bonds with the fox that lies near, reminding her of her child. Sara’s need for quiet shifts to a need for survival when the wolves come. Panting, exhausted and terrified, having lost the fox, Sara misses Sean’s arms. Hidden in a hole, Sara reaches for the journal she doesn’t remember slipping inside her jacket, and when she opens it, she’s transported back to the sound of her screams in the library, everyone staring in disgust.
Sara apologizes and rushes out, drives to work and quits, then drives home and speaks honestly for the first time, maybe, ever.
